3 soldiers to receive commendations for bravery during attacks

IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkott has approved requests to grant commendations to Staff Sergeant Yanai Weissman (hy”d), Sergeant Lichai Malka and Sergeant Matan Shamir.

Weissman, who served in the Nahal Brigade, will be recognized for his actions during a stabbing attack in Sha’ar Binyamin. Though he was on furlough at the time, he fought against the terrorist and was killed in the process. “Weissman sought contact with his bare hands and, through his actions, served as a shining example of the IDF’s values,” the request states. He will receive a Head of Regional Command Citation.

Sergeant Lichai Malka, a combat soldier in the search and rescue brigade, will receive a Brigade Commander Citation for her actions during a shooting attack at Binyamin’s Kikar Adam. “Sergeant Malka acted quickly and demonstrated heroism, calmness and professionalism,” the request notes.

Sergeant Matan Shamir, from the Givati Brigade, will also receive a Brigade Commander Citation for his conduct during the stabbing attack near Shechem in which he was wounded. “Sergeant Shamir demonstrated bravery, calmness and professionalism.”

In addition, the Givati Brigade’s Tsabar Battalion and Chief Inspector Shai Ohayon, from the Border Police, will receive certificates of appreciation.

Tsabar’s certificate commemorates the unit’s determination, professionalism and initiative while carrying out its operations in Judea. Chief Inspector Ohayon will be recognized for his bravery and resourcefulness while locating the two IDF soldiers who entered the Qalandiya refugee camp in a military vehicle.
