3 Dead in Shootings at Kansas Jewish Center, Old Age Home

Two shootings have been reported at the Jewish Community Center in Overland Park, Kansas City, and at Village Shalom, a retirement home in Leawood. At least three people are reported dead.

According to KSHB in Kansas City, Overland Park Police confirmed that multiple shots were fired at the community center, which is located at 5801 W 115th St.

Village Shalom, a retirement home located at 5500 W. 123rd in Leawood, near the JCC, is currently on lockdown.

Police said one person was killed at the Jewish Community Center and another was killed at Village Shalom.

Police reported that one person was in custody. A suspect was arrested at the Valley View Park Elementary School, which is a mile away from Village Shalom. KCTV5 said the suspect appeared to yell “Heil Hitler” as he was being led away in handcuffs by Overland Park police.

A 41 Action News photographer on the scene spoke with a man who says another man pointed a gun at him and shot the windows out of his car. That person was not injured.
