1,000 Visit Ruth’s Tomb in Hevron
May 27, 2012About 1,000 people came to the Tomb of Ruth in Hevron’s Tel Rumeida neighborhood this Shavuot weekend, where they read the Scroll of Ruth and celebrated the unique woman who converted to Judaism and who is a foremother of King David.
The number of people who came to pray was exceptionally large this year and the atmosphere was described as “unique”. IDF soldiers provided security.
The tomb underwent renovation last year and the local Jews were ready for the large number of visitors and offered them hospitality.
The head of Hevron’s Hospitality for Guests program, Yisrael Baramson, said things went smoothly this year. Baramson said that the Tomb should become an official heritage site.
