Israeli Girl Wins International Silver Medal in Judo
November 20, 2011
Think twice and thrice before messing with 15-year-old Shahar Sagi from Samaria (Shomron), who has won a silver medal in an international judo contest.
She is the first Israeli to win a silver medal in the Loralux competition in Luxembourg in the past several years. Sagi competed against hundreds of girls from Europe and Asia and is aiming for the 2016 Olympics.
Shahar began learning judo at the age of four and half in a judo club in her community of Shaked, located in northern Samaria. She has won first place in national competition in Haifa the past five years. In her spare time, she volunteers at the Shaked judo club.
Her mother Anat said, “We are proud and happy for her and for ourselves – proud of her international awards and for her volunteer work.”
“Shahar has proven that persistence and determination bring positive results,” commented Gershon Mesika, chairman of the Shomron Regional Council.
